How MoU booking works in Nainital
-
Sign in and verify
Your rank and pay level are read from the verified service record on your udChalo account. That is what resolves your entitled room rate and food charges.
-
Pick your dates
Open MoU booking and search Nainital for the nights you need. MoU availability is held separately from public inventory, so it is worth checking even when public rates look tight.
-
Book against your entitlement
The entitled rate, any top-up above it, the taxes and the cancellation terms are all shown before you pay. Nothing is charged until you confirm.
Entitled TD rates by pay level
Current entitled TD rates as promulgated by the Govt of India. Base rates are GST exclusive; food charges are GST inclusive.
| Pay level | Entitled base rate | Food charges | Occupancy |

MoU booking policies
The rules an MoU stay in Nainital is booked and claimed under.
Who can book
MoU hotels are open to defence personnel. Eligibility is read from the verified service record on your udChalo account rather than from anything entered at booking time; what differs by rank is the entitlement, not the access.
Entitled room rate
Each pay level carries its own entitled base rate per night, GST exclusive, as promulgated by the Govt of India. Where a stay sits above that rate the difference is shown as a top-up before you pay.
Food charges
A daily food entitlement applies alongside the room rate and is GST inclusive. It covers breakfast and one major meal, and is invoiced as a separate line item so it can be claimed separately.
Occupancy
Pay levels 12 and above are entitled on single occupancy. At pay levels 9 to 11 a 5-star stay is entitled on double occupancy, while 4-star and 3-star stays are single occupancy.
GST and invoicing
The hotel GSTIN appears on the invoice, with room and food as separate line items and the GST rate and amount stated separately, which is what a reimbursement claim needs.
Cancellation
Cancellation terms are set per property and per rate, exactly as on a public booking. The applicable terms are shown against the rate before you pay.
About staying in Nainital
Nainital works best when the hotel is matched to the trip, not chosen only by the lowest rate. The destination is a lake-centred hill town where central rooms trade parking space for easy walking access and quieter stays sit on outer roads, bringing together cool-weather breaks, viewpoints and outdoor trips in different parts of the city or region.
For most first-time visits, Mall Road, Tallital and Mallital provide useful starting points. Ayarpatta suits plans focused on that corridor, while Pangot and Bhowali Road can reduce the journey to outer attractions or transport links.
Expect a mix of guesthouses, budget hotels, family-run properties and full-service stays. Compare the payable total, room occupancy, location and refund rules using current inventory; an editorial starting price would become stale quickly.
Peak summer, long weekends and snowfall or monsoon periods can change both rates and road conditions. Weather and local events can alter journey times as well as availability, so verify conditions before planning visits to Eco Cave Gardens and Pangot Birding Area. Planning note reviewed in August 2026.

Frequently asked questions about MoU hotels in Nainital
What is an MoU hotel in Nainital?
An MoU hotel is a property tied up under a Memorandum of Understanding covering stays for the Armed Forces community. The rate and the inclusions are negotiated in advance rather than taken from public inventory, so an MoU stay is not the same as the publicly listed price for the same room.
Who can book MoU hotels in Nainital?
MoU hotels are open to defence personnel. What varies by rank is the entitlement, not the access: each pay level carries its own entitled room rate and food charges. Eligibility is checked against the service details on your udChalo account, so you need to be signed in and verified.
What am I entitled to at my pay level?
Pay level 14 and above is entitled to a base rate of Rs 9,375 plus GST at 18 per cent and food charges of Rs 1,500. Pay levels 12 to 13B are entitled to Rs 5,625 plus GST at 5 per cent and food charges of Rs 1,250. Pay levels 9 to 11 are entitled to Rs 2,813 plus GST at 5 per cent and food charges of Rs 1,125. These are the current rates promulgated by the Govt of India.
What happens if the hotel costs more than my entitlement?
The difference is shown as a top-up against the booking before you pay, so you can see exactly what is claimable and what you would bear personally. Nothing is added after that screen.
How do MoU rates differ from fauji rates?
Fauji rates are a defence discount applied on top of public inventory and are shown on the regular Nainital hotel pages. An MoU stay is booked against your TD entitlement at a property tied up under the MoU, and carries the tied-up inclusions such as breakfast, a major meal and laundry.
Can I see MoU rates for Nainital before signing in?
No. The negotiated rate is resolved against your verified rank, so it is shown only after sign-in. The prices against the hotels on this page are the public rates, the same ones the regular Nainital hotel pages show.
Do MoU bookings come with a reimbursement claim pack?
Yes. A completed MoU booking produces a GST invoice and a pre-filled claim annexure covering entitled versus actual per night, alongside the standard booking voucher. All three stay under My bookings.
Is cancellation different on an MoU booking?
Cancellation terms are set per property and per rate, exactly as they are on a normal booking. The applicable terms are shown against the rate before you pay.
