Who can book

Entitled room rate

Each pay level carries its own entitled base rate per night, GST exclusive, as promulgated by the Govt of India. Where a stay sits above that rate the difference is shown as a top-up before you pay.

Food charges

A daily food entitlement applies alongside the room rate and is GST inclusive. It covers breakfast and one major meal, and is invoiced as a separate line item so it can be claimed separately.

Occupancy

Pay levels 12 and above are entitled on single occupancy. At pay levels 9 to 11 a 5-star stay is entitled on double occupancy, while 4-star and 3-star stays are single occupancy.

GST and invoicing

The hotel GSTIN appears on the invoice, with room and food as separate line items and the GST rate and amount stated separately, which is what a reimbursement claim needs.

About staying in Agra

Agra is one corner of the Golden Triangle and home to the Taj Mahal, which makes it one of the most visited cities in India. Almost everyone who comes is here for the monuments, the Taj, Agra Fort and Fatehpur Sikri nearby, and a great many arrive as day-trippers from Delhi and leave the same evening, so an overnight stay is really about seeing the Taj at dawn.

Where you stay is shaped by the Taj. Taj Ganj, the cluster of lanes right beside the East and West gates, has the closest and cheapest rooms, many of them walkable to the entrance and some with rooftop Taj views. Fatehabad Road is the main hotel strip, with mid-range and upscale properties a short drive from the monument. Sadar Bazaar is the dining and shopping area, and Civil Lines holds some of the older established hotels.

The city covers every budget. Backpacker guesthouses and budget rooms fill Taj Ganj, mid-range and business hotels line Fatehabad Road, and the luxury hotels, several with Taj views, sit along the same corridor and towards the river. Agra is reached mostly by train and road, with the Yamuna Expressway putting Delhi around three to four hours away.

October to March is the comfortable season, though winter fog in December and January can obscure the Taj at dawn and delay trains, so allow a buffer. Summer from April to June is very hot.
