How MoU booking works in Darjeeling

Sign in and verify

Your rank and pay level are read from the verified service record on your udChalo account. That is what resolves your entitled room rate and food charges.
Pick your dates

Open MoU booking and search Darjeeling for the nights you need. MoU availability is held separately from public inventory, so it is worth checking even when public rates look tight.
Book against your entitlement

The entitled rate, any top-up above it, the taxes and the cancellation terms are all shown before you pay. Nothing is charged until you confirm.

MoU booking policies

The rules an MoU stay in Darjeeling is booked and claimed under.

Who can book

MoU hotels are open to defence personnel. Eligibility is read from the verified service record on your udChalo account rather than from anything entered at booking time; what differs by rank is the entitlement, not the access.

Entitled room rate

Each pay level carries its own entitled base rate per night, GST exclusive, as promulgated by the Govt of India. Where a stay sits above that rate the difference is shown as a top-up before you pay.

Food charges

A daily food entitlement applies alongside the room rate and is GST inclusive. It covers breakfast and one major meal, and is invoiced as a separate line item so it can be claimed separately.

Occupancy

Pay levels 12 and above are entitled on single occupancy. At pay levels 9 to 11 a 5-star stay is entitled on double occupancy, while 4-star and 3-star stays are single occupancy.

GST and invoicing

The hotel GSTIN appears on the invoice, with room and food as separate line items and the GST rate and amount stated separately, which is what a reimbursement claim needs.

Cancellation

Cancellation terms are set per property and per rate, exactly as on a public booking. The applicable terms are shown against the rate before you pay.

About staying in Darjeeling

Hotel choice in Darjeeling is shaped by its role as a steep Himalayan tea town where central pedestrian access and mountain views come with narrow roads and limited parking. A visitor planning cool-weather breaks, viewpoints and outdoor trips will not necessarily benefit from the same area as someone making a short transit or work stop.

Use Chowrasta for the main visitor zone, compare Mall Road and Gandhi Road for access and value, and look at Laden La Road when that part of the itinerary matters most. Ghoom and Lebong broaden the search beyond the obvious centre.

Budget rooms, independent hotels and mid-range stays make up much of the choice, with premium inventory concentrated in selected pockets. Final prices and cancellation terms are dynamic and must be taken from the booking feed at search time.

Peak summer, long weekends and snowfall or monsoon periods can change both rates and road conditions. Build in extra time for Tiger Hill and Darjeeling Himalayan Railway on busy dates, and favour a refundable rate when transport or access may change. Planning note reviewed in August 2026.

Frequently asked questions about MoU hotels in Darjeeling

What is an MoU hotel in Darjeeling?

An MoU hotel is a property tied up under a Memorandum of Understanding covering stays for the Armed Forces community. The rate and the inclusions are negotiated in advance rather than taken from public inventory, so an MoU stay is not the same as the publicly listed price for the same room.

Who can book MoU hotels in Darjeeling?

MoU hotels are open to defence personnel. What varies by rank is the entitlement, not the access: each pay level carries its own entitled room rate and food charges. Eligibility is checked against the service details on your udChalo account, so you need to be signed in and verified.

What am I entitled to at my pay level?

Pay level 14 and above is entitled to a base rate of Rs 9,375 plus GST at 18 per cent and food charges of Rs 1,500. Pay levels 12 to 13B are entitled to Rs 5,625 plus GST at 5 per cent and food charges of Rs 1,250. Pay levels 9 to 11 are entitled to Rs 2,813 plus GST at 5 per cent and food charges of Rs 1,125. These are the current rates promulgated by the Govt of India.

What happens if the hotel costs more than my entitlement?

The difference is shown as a top-up against the booking before you pay, so you can see exactly what is claimable and what you would bear personally. Nothing is added after that screen.

How do MoU rates differ from fauji rates?

Fauji rates are a defence discount applied on top of public inventory and are shown on the regular Darjeeling hotel pages. An MoU stay is booked against your TD entitlement at a property tied up under the MoU, and carries the tied-up inclusions such as breakfast, a major meal and laundry.

Can I see MoU rates for Darjeeling before signing in?

No. The negotiated rate is resolved against your verified rank, so it is shown only after sign-in. The prices against the hotels on this page are the public rates, the same ones the regular Darjeeling hotel pages show.

Do MoU bookings come with a reimbursement claim pack?

Yes. A completed MoU booking produces a GST invoice and a pre-filled claim annexure covering entitled versus actual per night, alongside the standard booking voucher. All three stay under My bookings.

Is cancellation different on an MoU booking?

Cancellation terms are set per property and per rate, exactly as they are on a normal booking. The applicable terms are shown against the rate before you pay.
